Applying for a NETP or NESP position can be daunting for a wide variety of reasons. The ACE website outlines all of the ACE processes so that you can sucessfully complete and navigate your way through your application from your documentation, the employer interviews and assessments, accepting an offer after the match and finally, understanding your options if you are not sucessful.
This page is dedicated to providing you with an overview of the ACE Nursing Statistics since the pilot in 2012. You will come to understand that gaining a funded position NETP or NESP position through the ACE programme is extremely competitive and hopefully this page will give you the insight and that edge when your completing your application.
The most important part of the ACE process from an employers point of view are a) your CV or Resume; b) your Cover Letter; c) your Referee Reports from your Nurse Preceptor and Clinical Tutor and d) how you perform at your Interview(s). Everything else you must do to complete your application is simply part of the process that is nationally agreed upon by the Directors of Nursing and other key stakeholders nationwide.
However, it is very important that you understand that currently there are not enough funded NETP and NESP positions for the amount of nursing students who graduate each year. Approximately 2,100 students will apply via the ACE process this year and approximately 1,300 graduate positions will be funded for hire by employers nationwide. That's approximately 350 in the Mid-Year intake and up to 900 in the End of Year intake. What this means is that a graduate position via the ACE process into a NETP or NESP programme is not guaranteed! By tracking our applicants over time since 2012 we have found that over 95% of all applicants are successful in finding a NETP or NESP position in less than 18 months after they have graduated.
ACE, along with our employers (DHB's), stakeholders and the ACE Nursing Reference Group are constantly looking at ways where we can increase the number of funded positions made available through Health Workforce NZ, and we look to private care providers such as GP's, Aged Residential, Primary and Community Care for example to plug this gap. This is a constant work in progress and all efforts to communicate our planning and our successes will be communicated when possible.
The statistics below are an overview of each intake and are not comprehensive. For comprehensive statistics that record and analyse regional data, NETP v NESP data, practice settings, DHB preferences, tertiary provider and ethnicity data, please refer to our comprehensive statistics reports in the resources section. The comprehensive statistics reports for the End of Year 2015 and Mid-Year 2016 intakes will be uploaded over the coming months. In the meantime and in the interests of transparency, these are the statistics that you need to know.
